As part of a Tulsa refinery’s upgrade project, EagleBurgmann Expansion Joint Solutions (Lakeside) was awarded several orders for expansion joints including a large tied universal elbow expansion joint for the Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit (FCCU). The 59-in (149 cm) diameter refractory-lined expansion joint weighed over 64,000 lbs. (29 metric tons) and was designed for 1,375 ˚F (746 °C) operating temperature at 25 psi (1.7 bar) pressure. Extending 35 ft. (10.7 m) in length, the final assembly is the largest expansion joint manufactured at the Lakeside, California facility. The project was engineered and manufactured by EagleBurgmann EJS at a value of $771,000 USD.
The Midwest refiner produces 125,000/bpd of crude oil and our expansion joint was critical for this upgrade project to increase the FCC unit’s capacity by 4,000/bpd. EagleBurgmann was able meet the refinery’s critical turnaround schedule and exceed our customer’s expectations resulting in several new orders awarded this year.
