Metal Expansion Joints Bellows Design
A key feature and basic element of these expansion joints is the bellows. The design of the bellows is predominately determined by movement, pressure, temperature, service life, materials and corrosion.
Bellows are manufactured by forming corrugations, or convolutions, in thin-walled metal cylinders.
These cylinders can then be inserted inside each other to form multi-ply bellows. All bellows are formed in their cold state, with optional heat treatment performed afterwards if applicable.
The bellows, like those found in the EagleBurgmann MBS682 seals, provide flexibility of movement and are designed to absorb axial compression (up to 50%), lateral offset (±20%) and angular movement.
Welding integrity and product quality can be verified with various non-destructive tests and are carried out in-house or externally with supervision. Tests include:

Fabric Expansion Joints Design
The fabric expansion joints consist of variety of build up using one or more layers of material in the construction. The essential layer of the fabric expansion joint is the sealing layer, that ensures tightness of the connection. The choice of material and construction is determined by movement, temperature, chemical composition of the flow medium and pressure.
The fabric expansion joint can be delivered either as soft parts only, that can be mounted directly on the duct or on existing steel frames, or it can be delivered pre mounted on steel frames as a complete drop in unit.
Fabric expansion joints are very flexible connections with nearly no reaction forces, which makes it the ideal for use in fluegas ducts and by installation sensitive to reaction forces (for example gas turbine installations).
Materials used for EB fabric expansion joints are subjected to tests to ensure that the materials used for manufacturing fulfills satisfactory values both before and after exposure to high temperatures or chemical exposure.
